Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Ephesians 6:18 NLT
Let me tell you a story about a Christian couple. The wife decided one day that she had enough of trying to be God. She was ready to release all control of her life to Him. She felt good about her decision. Immediately after praying, she felt a peace and calm wash over her. She felt better than she ever had..no worry about the outcome. In her excitement she shared this with her husband. He hesitated but said, “Well that’s great, baby. I support whatever you do.” She could sense his insincerity. Trying not to feel discouraged, she asked if he was ready to follow God’s call. He thought for a moment. He said he was but wasn’t sure how to know if he’s being called by God or if it’s Satan tricking him into thinking it’s God’s call (sometimes we want something so bad, we can’t hear God telling us no).
So, in these two people you see very different views on God’s call. Short of a burning bush, you are more likely to miss the call if you aren’t praying daily. I don’t mean superficial “I want” prayers. I’m talking humble, reverent, grateful, honest prayer. Why? Think about marriage. If you have a strong marriage, are you ignoring each other or are you just sitting there living separate lives apart from each other? NO! You are talking. You are living together. You are intimate. That’s what you HAVE to have with God! He wants you to come to him with your celebrations, joys, fears, sorrows, and brokenness. Lean into Him. Praise Him. That’s what prayer is.
In my story, the wife did that daily…multiple times per day. The husband was not consistent. God blesses those that are faithful. Never stop praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Here’s some scripture to get you started:
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7 ESV
You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it. Matthew 21:22 NLT
I love you and can’t wait to see you again.
